Unsung Heroes
Forest Lake has many older adults and as a result, we have a relatively large number of funerals each year. FLUM offers a ministry that few churches offer, a lunch for families the day of the funeral. In order to provide this ministry, it takes many volunteers and many hours of service. This ministry provides a welcome space for families to gather and share and remember the loved one on the day of the funeral. Many out of town family members would not be able to sit down and have a time with their family in a relaxed atmosphere.
Through the years, we have divided the church membership up into three groups, each led by one or two leaders. As deaths occur, the group is notified and the members on the list are contacted to provide the food, table decorations, people to set up the Fellowship Hall, put the food and drinks out, serve the meal and clean the kitchen and launder the tablecloths.
I wish I could thank each and every person who has participated in this ministry over the years, but it would be too lengthy a list. Please know that your service has been such a blessing to the many families through the years. Madelyn Jones is now coordinating this ministry. Please respond when you are called because it takes many people each time to minister to grieving families.
Thank you again for your unfailing service and love,
Jane
