By Dr. Kevin Thomas —
14 How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? 15 And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!” (Romans 10:14-16 NIV)
Why are we here? Why do we show up every Sunday morning and so often throughout the week? Why do we serve? Why do we give? What’s our purpose? The answer to those questions goes far beyond buildings and budgets. We don’t show up just to have impressive attendance numbers. We don’t give just to pay power bills, salaries, and insurance. Instead, we dedicate our lives to this ministry in order to take good news to a hurting world! We are changing the world!
Every week, you show up at University Place Elementary School bearing good news. As you engage in the lives of young students, you not only help them read, write, add, and subtract; you also prove to them that someone cares about them. Our students at UPES know that they are loved and accepted because you are willing to go. What beautiful feet you have, you volunteers at UPES!
Next month, the next generation of Forest Lake disciples hits the mission field. You’ve helped to pay their way. You’ve bought dozens of water filters. Today, there are mothers in the Dominican Republic who have no choice but to give their children dirty water to drink. In a few weeks, that fact will change because you are willing to send missionaries. Forest Lake will give families the means to have clean, safe water for at least the next ten years.
Those families will also hear the Gospel as we offer not only filters but Living Water as well. What beautiful feet you have, you who are sharing in our college mission trip.
Decades ago, Forest Lake sent John Elmore as a missionary to Chile. Throughout these years, your gifts and your presence in Chile have changed lives. Your generosity is creating new life for people most of us will never meet. How can anyone share the gospel unless they are sent? Your sending is changing the world. What beautiful feet you have, you who have given to support our mission work in Chile.
In these ways and so many others, Forest Lake is transforming our world. This week, we’re asking you to prayerfully consider your gift to Christ and His work through Forest Lake in 2018. It’s not about the budget. It’s about changing the world! May we give joyfully that our world might experience the goodness of knowing Christ!
