Outreach Update 9-30-17

Thank you for donating $5,575 towards the hurricane relief offering through United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR). We also gave money to help the Standifers deliver a truck load of household goods to a local family in Texas, made flood buckets, and collected gift cards for another family. Your generosity is amazing. Thank you Bobby and Ginny Hubbard for taking the lead on the flood buckets.

Thank you also to all the classes discussing our Poverty Initiative. Sunday Vanjessitha Wilkinson from Central High School will speak on Education. Wednesday night Patricia Doughty and Tesney Davis will speak on education.

3rd Monday Luncheon will resume October 16th. The University Place Elementary School children will sing for us.

We are also collecting items for Operation Shoe Box. Please send small items to fill the shoe boxes that will go to other countries for Christmas presents. Please return the boxes by October 1st.

Over Christmas we are going with Filter of Hope on a mission trip to the Dominican Republic. More info can be found at www.filterofhope.org. The college students will sell T-shirts as a fundraiser.

Sack Lunch Team forming: The Riley Lumpkin Sunday School Class is forming a team to provide 150 sack lunches once a quarter for the East Tuscaloosa Community Soup Bowl. We have commitments for labor team, sandwich products, and paper products. We are still in need of 150 individual chips (around $35 -$40) Desserts (cookies, Little Debbie cakes, etc. $35-$40) and soft drinks ($35-$40). We would provide these sack lunches one Sunday every 3 months so this would be a recurring expense four times a year. Let Carolyn Lindsey know if your small group or Sunday School class would like to help or if you want more information.
