Outreach Update 11-5-18

Our college students are still collecting canned goods for the Beat Hunger Beat Auburn Food Drive. The canned goods can be placed in the Welcome Center.

Jesus Way Board Meeting, November 14, at noon in the Koinonia Classroom.

Change of plans- our Mission Speaker for November is Lynn Armour from the Good Samaritan Clinic. She is the executive director for the Good Samaritan Clinic. She will speak November 18 during the 9:00 am Worship Service.

Our church is participating in the community wide Reconciliation Circles. It has been so wonderful to meet with others and talk about how we can bring the community closer. Our church also participates in the Hope Initiative Meetings. This is a group of community leaders who meet to address the needs of the less fortunate, crime, service, and joining together as a community. We meet once a month at Calvary Baptist Church.

Each month our church is faithful in serving with our lime at University Elementary School, Hospice of West Alabama, Meals on Wheels, Love Stitchers, Scouts, United Methodist Women Missions, visiting our home-bound and sick and many more. We also serve with our money each month supporting the Good Samaritan Clinic, Jesus Way Homeless Shelter, Weekday Kids Scholarships, and the In As Much Fund. The In As Much Fund allows us to help people with power, rent and medical supplies. We are also helping one family each month with our time and money by assisting them with stable housing as they work their way out of poverty. This family works with our Working United Ministry.

Christmas Giving for UPES during November
One of FLUM’s Christmas traditions is lo provide clothing and toys as Christmas gifts for University Place Elementary School students whose families need financial assistance for gift-giving. The UPES counselor works with several organizations and agencies to assure that all low-income students receive gifts and that giving is not duplicated for idenUfied families. Since UPES has grown by a third this academic year, the need will be greater than usual. Special thanks go to Carol and Jim Cargile, who coordinate this mission-by consulling with UPES and buying, wrapping, and delivering all the gifts lo the school. Donations are needed during November so the Cargiles will have plenty of time to have the gifts ready before school lets out in December. Please write “UPES Christmas• on the memo line of checks. All donations are deeply appreciated.
