Longest Night Service 12-21-20

Watch Live at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, December 21, 2020

Monday night, December 21 at 6:00, Forest Lake will offer its first Longest Night Worship Service and you can watch it right here. We expect to offer this service as a live streaming event on Facebook and on our YouTube channel.

The Christmas season is filled with lots of festivities, celebrations, and “Joy to the World.” For many people, the parties remind us of our sadness. Depression increases during the Christmas Season. Domestic violence increases. Even suicide numbers climb during the holiday season. While the world is singing about a White Christmas, many people are experiencing a Blue Christmas. Our Longest Night Service will recognize that fact. We will give a voice to what’s missing this season and offer hope and healing.

The service is built around the themes of grief, courage, memories, and love. During the service, you will have the opportunity to light a candle to remember a loved one or to lift up a situation in your life that needs healing. We’re offering two methods for lighting a candle:

1. Send an email to Kevin Thomas at kthomas@forestlakeumc.org listing the people or concerns for which you want us to light a candle. If you’d like to keep your concern private, you can simply list it as “unspoken.” One of us in the sanctuary will light a candle in the Chancel Area for you.

2. Since we expect to be live streaming the service, you’ll be able to list your name or concern in the comment section on the service. Again, if you’d like your concern to remain private, simply comment “unspoken.” One of us in the sanctuary will light a candle for your concern. I pray that this service will be a special time of healing for all who join. The service will be available as a recording if you’d like to view it at a different time. Please contact me if you have any questions.
