Children’s News 8-19-17

Our backpacks are blessed. Our kiddos have promoted. What. A. Sunday! Blessing of the Backpacks and Promotion Sunday is one of my most favorite days of the year. It’s the beginning of something new as well as a celebration of the growth of our children! Both are things to be acknowledged and praised!

Did you get your fall calendar this Sunday? We’re getting “geared” up for our Wednesday classes! During August, our classes will be in the Koinonia classroom from 6-7 p.m. and are open to all ages of the church. It will be Advent in August! Let’s get a jump on things as we have guest teachers show us how to make ornaments from years past. This will be a great time to mix and mingle with lots of our church members.

For September, October, November, January and February, our Wednesday schedule will be:
1st Wed.: Bible Story Introduction/Special Snack!
2nd Wed.: Movie Clip/Craft Night
3rd Wed.: Imagination Station
4th Wed.: College Rec Night!

This brings me to my next request… I’m looking for three volunteer teachers. This would work out to only working one time a month, for five times! Scripts, recipes and directions are all provided!

1st Wednesday Volunteer: Introduce the Bible Story and make a special snacks with the kiddos
2nd Wednesday Volunteer: Play the movie short and complete the monthly craft with the kiddos
3rd Wednesday Volunteer: Imagination Station night! This night has a fun activity, usually science-based.

Parents, we will be participating in the church-wide poverty focus starting in September. Our kiddos will have two missions, one local and one overseas. For the local mission, we will be filling as many boxes as possible with snacks! We all know what it’s like to have these hungry children and how much these snacks can add up, cost-wise. We’re going to fill as many boxes as we can for September and October to send to University Place. Then, for our overseas mission, we’re raising money to send with our College Group on their mission to the Dominican Republic with Filters of Hope. And guess what? We have a secret donor who is willing to match us dollar for dollar to $100. So that means if our kiddos can raise $100, it will automatically be doubled to $200! Think we can do it? I do! Look for our donation gauges in the Children’s Hall in September.

On Friday, Sept. 8 from 6-8 p.m., we’ll have our next big kiddo’s event – Tailgate and Skate! Plan to bring your favorite tailgating food to share while we watch our favorite kiddos skate. Of course, parents are more than welcome to skate, too!

As always, a big “thank you” to our parents and congregation for supporting these kiddos and the Children’s Ministry.

Looking forward to everything we’ve got in the “works” as we get “geared” up!
